Lilian Noble Friend

Lilian Noble joined London's Civil Defence organisation at the outbreak of the Second World War at the age of 19.

Lilian apparently secured her first job for the British Postal Telephone service as a telephonist in August 1936.

Harold William Powter

As with so many of the airmen who were Jim Ives' contemporaries Harold Powter's luck eventually ran out.

Having completed a tour of operations with the 625 Squadron crew of Canadian pilot P/O Reginald Price DFC,

Cecil Henry Gardener Friend

Information has come to light concerning Jim's friend and work colleague Cecil Henry Gardener.

Cecil was a few weeks older than Jim, born in late August 1922 in Muswell Hill and was educated at Coldfall Elementary School, and Tollington Boys Grammar School, both in Muswell Hill.

Cecil left school in the summer of 1939 having passed the General Schools' Certificate with exemption from matriculation. Initially working in his mother's café for a short time Cecil secured a clerical job with Gaumont British Films
